Bringing Smiles to Our Children's Faces
In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month Muskegon Family Care hosted the Muskegon area Give Kids a Smile Day event on February 1, 2008 with great success. Hackley Community Care Center and Muskegon Family Care alternate each year hosting the event and each year both local health centers are actively involved. The event is a collaborative effort, put on by the area dental coalition. Give Kids a Smile Day offers free dental services for those who are uninsured in the community. With a turn out of 151 kids, this was the largest turn out for this annual event. Joining the dental professionals were students from Grand Rapids Community College, who are able to get hands-on experience along with helping those in need. Local dentists were involved as well, including: Dr. Connie Verhagen, Dr. Phil Monroy, Dr. Randy Koviack, Dr. Mike Cerminero, Dr. Michael Fisher, Dr. Dr. Guerin Pierre, Dr. Michielle Matheson, Dr. Joe Arbutante, Dr. Kevin Murphy; also Dr. Nicholas Novitsky, Dr. Amy Lalick and a U of M dental student, Kristi Soash, represented Muskegon Family Care. Even senator Gerald VanWoerkom had a chance to stop in. He was welcomed with a smile by our tooth fairy (our very own – Dr. Nicholas Novitsky). Some sponsorship came from businesses around the community, and they were gladly recognized with a “wall of awards”. The success of this year’s event was due to all of those who chose to get involved and Muskegon Family Care greatly appreciates the commitment to all who helped out this year and in years past. |
