Mom’s Night Out at Glendale Early Elementary
April 24, 2009 - Muskegon Family Care partners each year with Glendale Early Elementary to reach out to mom’s for a night of information, fellowship, and fun. This year, Kim Kuharevicz, RN joined the staff and moms to perform blood pressure screenings and to teach the message of safe sleep to moms with infants. The MFC AmeriCorps Volunteers put together a “parent survival kit,” which included trinkets and reminders that parenting can be both difficult and fun.
Poverty Expert Donna Beegle Comes to Muskegon
On April 24, 2009 Donna Beegle spoke to a large crowd of community members, including members of the MFC staff. Donna has an amazing story and speaks movingly about her journey through and around poverty. As a Community Health Center, the staff of Muskegon Family Care is expected to be culturally competent, including the “culture of poverty.” MFC had representatives in the crowd, including social workers and managers to hear what message Donna presented and the challenges she proposed for the audience. Each clinic counselor bought her book, “See Poverty, Be the Difference” in an effort to learn more about her story and pass along the message to the entire staff at MFC. |
