  Programs and Services
As a community health center, we provide a range of services far greater than an "ordinary doctor's office." We develop programs and services to meet the changing needs of our community, all with a goal of creating a healthier Muskegon.

Medical Care Back to Top
Our health clinics offer a full range of primary care services to families including immunizations and well-child care, pregnancy care and deliveries, family planning services and osteopathic manipulation. Primary medical care services are provided for people of all ages, accepting Medicare, all types of Medicaid, some private insurances and uninsured (who are offered a sliding fee scale for services).

Contact one of the medical clinics for further information:
Getty Street Clinic 231-739-9315;
Oak Avenue Clinic 231-777-2093.

Dental Care Back to Top
General Dentistry services are provided for patients of all ages, including walk-in emergency dental care, dental hygiene visits, and specializing in providing care for children with Medicaid. Adults without dental insurance are accepted on a limited basis.

Call Muskegon Family Care (MFC) Dental Services at 231-767-9830 for more information.

Behavioral Health Back to Top
Counseling services for emotional and relationship problems are offered on site at both clinics. MFC is able to bill Medicaid and Medicare for these services, and also sees patients who qualify for sliding fee scale discounts

Maternal Infant Health Program Back to Top
Through home visits our team of nurses, social workers, dietitians and infant mental health specialists provide supportive care and education to pregnant women and families of infants up to 1 year of age.

Contact MIHP at 231-737-1760 for more information.

Sliding Fee Scale Discounts Back to Top
For patients whose insurance does not completely cover their care at MFC, a sliding fee scale discount is available based on income. The lowest co-pay for visits under this scale is $5, and the fee scale offers a discount percentage for patients whose incomes are up to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Contact Financial Resource Specialists located at all MFC sites for more information.

Pharmaceutical Assistance Back to Top
MFC helps patients afford medications in a variety of ways. We have a discount pharmacy program through our own Getty Street Pharmacy as well as through Westshore Professional Pharmacy. This program provides significant discounts for MFC patients without prescription coverage. Stop by the MFC Pharmacy located in our Getty Street Clinic or call Westshore Professional Pharmacy at 231-672-2204 for further information.

We also offer a limited supply of sample medications, and assist patients in applying for pharmaceutical company indigent drug programs. Ask at your MFC clinic for more information.

Transportation Services Back to Top
MFC patients can be transported to medical appointments by our driver.

Contact the driver for more information at: 231-557-8297.

Sight for Students Vision Program Back to Top
Any student in the community who lacks vision insurance and needs an eye exam and glasses may contact the AmeriCorps Outreach Worker at the Getty Street Clinic, 231-737-1771, to see if they may qualify for a gift certificate for this program. Adults with diabetes may also qualify for a dilated retinal exam through the Lions Club – contact the AmeriCorps Outreach Worker for information on this program.

Community Referral Services Back to Top
MFC patients who need assistance with community resources for emergency needs or other services may ask for the Clinic Counselor at their medical care site. Information on resources for food, clothing, household items, and community services are available through counselors at both clinics.

Parenting Classes Back to Top
Dad’s Always on Duty Class is taught at Mercy General Partners (MGHP) Special Delivery Classrooms every 3 months for fathers who may not be living with their babies (or who are not married to the moms). This class teaches dads hands-on care for infants and also teaches rights and responsibilities of dads. A “dad pack” of supplies is given to every participant, and a drawing is also held during the 2-1/2 hour class. Call to register at 231-777-6150.

Parenting Classes through MSS/ISS are taught every 3 months at MGHP for parents of infants and toddlers. This class is for mothers and fathers, and childcare and transportation is provided. The participant learn hands-on skills and have the opportunity to share tips with other parents. Each family who participates is given a $10 Meijer gift certificate

Outreach Activities Back to Top
Muskegon Family Care has several outreach activities to promote the health of the community. Past activities have included a “Mammogram Party” to encourage women to get mammograms, “Give Kids a Smile Day” in which 63 uninsured children received dental care at no charge from volunteer dentists, and participating in various health fairs throughout the community.

Mitzie Fund Back to Top
This emergency fund for patients of MFC is used to assist in meeting emergency needs and needs that cannot be met in other ways. Staff refer needy patients to the fund, which can offer up to $50 on a one-time basis. This fund is made possible through staff donations and has helped patients with such items as food, clothing, Christmas gifts, prescription co-pays and other items.

Household / Clothing Donations Back to Top
MFC staff donates gently used items for patients in the lobbies at each clinic site. It is estimated that over $1700 per year worth of items are donated to patients in this way.

Books for Kids Back to Top
Muskegon Family Care received a donation of 7,600 books from First Book, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing free books to low-income children. The books are given to children at their annual well-child visits to encourage literacy.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) Back to Top
